We live in an era in which most things can be delivered to us: our dry cleaning, takeout, and even nightcaps can quickly arrive at our door with just the tap of a button. But until very recently, people still had to pick up their groceries the traditional way.
Instacart is modernizing the grocery shopping game. Rather than spending an hour pushing a cart around a crowded store, you can have a personal shopper pick and deliver groceries directly to your door. It starts with downloading the Instacart iPhone or Android app, selecting your zip code, and adding your favorite items to a virtual cart. Once you check out, an Instacart Personal Shopper accepts your order, uses the app to find your groceries, and brings them right to you. You can have your groceries delivered within an hour at the earliest, or schedule them up to a week in advance.
Until last week, Instacart serviced most of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, north Chandler, and north Gilbert. But on May 25, Instacart began delivering hand-picked groceries to more Valley neighborhoods in Mesa, south Chandler, south Gilbert, Queen Creek, Buckeye, Apache Junction, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Fountain Hills, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Sun City, El Mirage, and San Tan Valley. The company’s service area expanded by 65 zip codes and is expected to bring more than 100 new jobs to Metro Phoenix.
“Phoenix residents have really embraced Instacart and we have been working hard to expand our delivery area to include even more homes,” said Sean Twersky, Instacart General Manager, in a press release. “We are excited to announce these 65 new zip codes and look forward to serving even more people in search of the time-saving convenience that the service offers.”
Competing delivery services are often limited, only allowing their customers to select groceries that are non-refrigerated or even non-perishable. Instacart’s Personal Shoppers can grab and deliver any grocery item you’d get at the store, regardless of whether it belongs in the pantry, fridge, or freezer. As of today, Instacart offers delivery from Costco, Basha’s, Whole Foods Market, CVS, Natural Grocers, Fry’s, Smart & Final, Petco, BevMo, and Safeway.
Instacart currently covers more than 50 markets nationwide and works with both larger grocery brands and local family grocers.
