If you’re reading this at your desk, take a look at the space around you. Do you see messy cords, dusty speakers, and a noisy computer tower? Do you struggle to find an open port to plug your smartphone into? Are you always readjusting the things on your desk instead of focusing on work? If you face any of these issues, you may want to take a look at SPACE.

Designed by M33 Labs in Phoenix, SPACE is a next-generation desktop computer and desk that cleans up clutter while providing the ultimate workspace experience. Sleek and sophisticated, SPACE allows the modern worker to streamline their creative and professional duties without sacrificing comfort and computer quality.

SPACE was born out of the question, “What would the desktop computer look like if it was redesigned for the modern world?” M33 Labs seems to have hit the nail right on the head. At the center of each SPACE is a ten-point touchscreen with a 1920 x 1080 HD display, which can lie flat on the desktop or tilt upward to act as a monitor. The computer (built into the underside of the desktop) features a sixth-generation Intel processor, 4GB of GDDR5 graphics memory, and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. SPACE seamlessly integrates with dual band 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth v4.0. Speakers are positioned at the front of the desk, while the operating board (six USB ports, one HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and the power button) sits on the left side of the desktop for easy access.

SPACE is also customizable to suit your personality. The desktop comes in your choice of red, white, or midnight blue. The computer hardware can be exchanged and replaced, so you can tailor it to your specific needs. It’s industry-standard parts are individually removable, so you can swap hardware as needed instead of replacing your computer every few years.

Who’s behind this ingenious invention? M33 Labs consists of 11 Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University students and graduates. “Each member has their own background and field of expertise, which allows us [to access] a broad range of skills,” says Chris Diaz, head of M33 Labs’ marketing team. “For example, we have electrical and mechanical [engineers], but also have education and business degree seeking students on our team. Having this diverse of a background really enables us to hit every end of the spectrum and tackle some big challenges.”

Designing the perfect modern workstation wasn’t an easy task. The SPACE currently available for pre-order is version four, and each version took about six months to develop. M33 Labs spent nearly two years sketching out new designs, then creating prototypes out of wood, 3D printed plastics, acrylic, and silicone. The final product is made of aluminum, like a MacBook or iPhone, and contains more detail than its prototype.

Despite their strides, M33 Labs has another obstacle to overcome. Through Kickstarter, the company is seeking funding to build more SPACE desks. They have until September 3 to meet their $30,000 goal. Donors who pledge $200 or less can receive M33 Labs T-shirts, thank-you cards, spots on the Wall of Gratitude, M33 Labs USB drives, or a pass to visit the company’s facility. Donate $2,800, and you’ll receive one SPACE, plus all of the above.

After they reach their Kickstarter goal, M33 Labs hopes to outfit local offices with SPACE desks. Students in small dorms and apartments are just as likely to love the product, because as Diaz says, “You could even say you can use SPACE to save space!”

The SPACE campaign will only be on Kickstarter for a limited time, so click here to support! You can learn more about SPACE on M33 Labs’ website and Facebook page.
